Simkar Announces Acquisition of Kalco Lighting

PHILADELPHIA, PA - January 7, 2000 - Simkar Corporation, a leading manufacturer of fluorescent, HID, and vandal-resistant lighting fixtures since 1952, has acquired Kalco Lighting of Las Vegas, Nevada, a producer of moderate to high-end chandeliers, sconces and accessories. Simkar sells primarily to the commercial, industrial and home center channels, while Kalco distributes its products through showrooms, hospitality, and upscale retail outlets.

Kalco Lighting, established in 1981 by Harry Kallick, has been a leader in innovative design and finishes since it was founded. More recently, Kalco was one of the first companies to understand the importance of coordinating lighting to accent furniture, which it has done in a number of styles, including wrought iron.

Facilities which are part of the acquisition include assembly and distribution centers in Las Vegas, as well as manufacturing facilities in the Philippines. All current management and selling reps will remain in place at Kalco.
